Vision
MKRF believes that the power of communication can change mindsets, make us more tolerant and create a more balanced and empowered society.
The Mir Khalil ur Rahman Foundation (MKRF) is a section 42, nonprofit organization engaged in advocacy campaigns for the public good. MKRF uses its strategic relationship with the largest media group in the country, and with other media groups, to develop and run campaigns that change mindsets and behavior in relation to issues of great national importance.
MKRF has campaigned extensively and effectively on issues related to economic development, governance, peace, extremism, freedom of expression, health, education, anti-women laws, etc.
Core values – Leadership, Participation, Empowerment and Transformation
The Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Foundation (MKRF) has — with earnest humility and with the realization that the media has many a time helped wrongly frame the debate, adding fuel to the fire of political decision-making — decided to help create an enabling environment for a difficult economic roadmap to stabilize the country. Behind closed doors, many have articulated the plan to steer Pakistan out of its economic crisis and help get the country back on its feet, but this time we are helping economic experts from all sectors come together to showcase it publicly and create a positive momentum for difficult decisions and crucial conversations.
Geo Fact Check is an MKRF fact-checking initiative, which is committed to fighting the spread of misinformation and disinformation on the social media.
MKRF extensively uses media for its advocacy and behavioral change campaigns. It believes in freedom of expression but also that reportage must be factual, transparent, and impartial. While accuracy and transparency of print and television content are verifiable with relative ease, and social media is replete with fake news.
MKRF has commissioned an extensive fact-checking initiative utilizing its strategic relationship with Pakistan’s largest media group – Geo, Jang, and TheNews International in August 2022. Branded Geo Fact Check, the initiative utilizes the extensive network of reporters and correspondents of the group (Geo & Jang Group has a reporter/correspondent every 9 Kilometers throughout Pakistan)
A social media verification team monitors the digital platforms and the conventional media to pick the material of public interest and determine its factual accuracy. There is a criterion for the selection of news to be fact-checked. The criteria include the virality amount of data, facts & figures and other determinants.
